The Antas Temple

The Antas valley is a place of great solemnity and holiness.
The various civilizations that lived here chose to celebrate their religious rites in this very valley, beginning from the Nuraghi Sardinians in 800 B.C. Afterwards, in 500 B.C., the Punics built a temple dedicated to Sid Babay, or Sardus Pater, national hero and god of the ancient Sardinians.
In 200 B.C. the Romans restored it and dedicated it to the emperor Caracalla.
Some decades ago, the temple, which exceedingly suffered from the ravages of time, has been rebuilt by Prof. F. Barreca. He has been able to maintain the imposing aspect given to it by the ancient people and the solemnity of the valley silences. At present, in the Antas Valley, classical music concerts and really exciting evenings dedicated to nature, history and culture are not uncommon.

Su Mannau

The Su Mannau cave is a large karst complex located under the calcareous territory which stretches from Su Mannau-Terra Nieddas to Antas Oghittu.
The cave is made of two main branches, generated by two small subterranean watercourses: the left one by the Placido (calm) river and the right one by the Rapido (fast) river.
The internal chambers, already very renowned, are rich in drystones, and imposing concretionary phenomena, such as the aragonite and the calcite crystallizations.

agriturismo Marcarius: pino secolare

The Age-old pine tree

The stone pine spontaneously grows in the dune system in Portixeddu (Fluminimaggiore) - San Nicolo (Buggerru).
This species is known as age-old pine tree ("Sa matta de su cumpingiu” in the local dialect).
The pine tree is more than 200 years old. Located not far from the junction with the road that leads to Portixeddu and Buggerru, it is the only Italian representative of its species.

Mines

The Fluminese region has been scarred by various mine works since ancient times, in particular since 1860. There are about 20 places where you can find the remains of offices, public buildings and miners’ shelters. In the late seventies, the slow but continuous disengagement of the mining firms generated the end of the extraction activity and the abandonment of the mines.
Particularly charming is the Arenas mine, because in Arenas the miners’ village, built next to the washery, still exists.Still today, you can see the church, now deconsecrated, the school, and the houses, all shrouded in a disturbing sensation of abandonment.
